A premium pair of earbuds at an affordable price will serve us very well in our daily lives.
Everyone needs a good-quality pair of earbuds for different reasons.
Some need to be on call/zoom all day long, so having a headset/earpiece will save their neck tremendously. Some love to do work, commute or study with music, while others prefer to catch up on their Netflix series while commuting.
Earbuds For Multitasking
I love reading, especially self-help books. But as a parent of 4 kids with two home-based digital businesses means that reading has taken a backseat. There are forever other more critical tasks to complete than reading for myself.
I thank LUMOS Projector for sending me their latest product – the LUMOS TEMPO Wireless Earbuds. It has made a considerable improvement in my life. No exaggeration here.
I Get More Done!
Reading a book means pure focus, and setting aside time to sit down and READ. However, I cannot engage myself with anything else while doing so.
But with a pair of LUMOS TEMPO wireless earbuds, I can multitask!
For example, I finished listening to Brian Tracy’s Eat That Frog and a couple of his youtube videos within 4 hours while going through mundane household chores and challenging myself to run more!
In fact, I ran more than my usual distance because I was so immersed in the audiobook that I forgot I was running!
As a result, I felt immensely accomplished as I achieved so much more.
But it was not as if I had not considered getting a set of earbuds previously. I did, but I refused to pay for the premium ones. So instead, I bought cheap ones online and well… those earbuds did not go well with me, and I gave them up after two trials. I also tried my hubby’s premium pair, but it did not survive five jumping jets.
Review of LUMOS TEMPO Wireless Earbuds
As a runner and learner, my key criteria when selecting earbuds are the price, fit and clarity.
Priced at only $179, LUMOS TEMPO is a steal and not to be missed as its features are comparable and, at times, better than other premium brands that cost easily above $300.
The following features will undoubtedly impress you, and I rank them from most to least important to me. But note that I work from home as a parent of young kids. Hence my needs may differ from yours.
Earbuds Fit
This feature is the most important to me because I use LUMOS TEMPO mainly when I commute or run. Without a good fit, any other sound features are useless if the earbud keeps falling off my ear.
Every box of TEMPO comes with three pairs of grey ear tips. I use the pair that came fitted on the earphone.
It didn’t fall off from my ear canal, not even after a 30-minute run when I got all sweaty.
Water Proof Dust Protected
LUMOS TEMPO is waterproof and has an IP rating of IPX5 which means that it is resistant to a low-pressure water stream like water flowing through our home tap.
This rating also means that the earphone is resistant to damage from dust, even if some dust can get into the earphones.
This IP rating is an international standard developed and is maintained by the International Electrotechnical Commission. Therefore, a manufacturer cannot simply rate its earphones without going for third-party testing and certification.
Even if you are not a runner, you will still want to ensure that you are using a pair of waterproof earbuds to ensure your safety on rainy days.
And by the way, if you ever bring your earbuds for a swim, you need a pair rated IPX7 and beyond.
Newest Bluetooth 5.2
As a home-maker, having the latest Bluetooth 5.2 version in the wireless earbuds is very important to me.
I like to leave my mobile on the table while working around the house, especially when cooking. Leaving the cellphone beside the hot stove is a no-go for my safety.
The latest Bluetooth 5.2 has a stretched connection range of up to 240m and transmits data more efficiently and seamlessly while using less power.
However, to benefit from this feature, your mobile phone must have at least Bluetooth 5 too.
It is super easy to locate the gadget via Bluetooth, and it took my mobile less than 1 minute to complete the scan. And check out the screenshot below. TEMPO’s battery life is indicated there too!
Superior Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
The ANC function is typically a premium earbud feature, yet TEMPO cancels up to 42db noises while the industry average is only 30db.
This means TEMPO can block out more effectively all distracting & fuzzy background noises than others. With this super-clear sound feature, I can listen to my audiobooks crystal-clear even by just wearing one earpiece instead of two.
When I multitask while listening to audiobooks with earbuds, I prefer to wear only one piece because I am already carrying out two tasks simultaneously and thus have less capacity to be fully aware of my surroundings.
Alternatively, I can opt to wear both sides of the earbuds to enjoy a movie on my bed but turn on the ambient mode so that I can still hear my kids screaming for me.
But nah, I still prefer to use only one earbud as a responsible and present parent. Again, that’s just my personal preference.
Superb 360 Sound Quality
After testing TEMPO’s sound quality with a 3-minute Jurassic World Dominion trailer, I decided that watching a movie on my mobile is now a mini-luxury.
The surround sound effect is awesome, with the bass, midrange and treble calibrated to the most optimal.
I was initially afraid that the movie’s high-pitched sound effects would hurt my ear. But my ears felt comfortable when the climax in the clip happened. I could even turn up the volume higher.
Long Battery Life
Tempo has one of the longest battery life on the market. While the earbuds last 7 hours, the full-charged case gives another 23 hours.
This entire battery life of 30 hours means less hassle of regular charging, a big deal for those returning to a 4 or 5-day work week or travelling overseas.
High Definition Mic
For those of you who are often engaged in long hours of calls or zoom meetings, you will be happy to know that LUMOS TEMPO is equipped with six mics vs the traditional 4 mic setup in most earbuds on the market.
Your counterparts can now hear you clearer & sharper. I wish I could enjoy this technology when I was working as a bank employee years ago.

How To Set Up Your LUMOS TEMPO
When you first unbox your TEMPO, remember to tear off the two thin films at the base of the two earbuds so that the Bluetooth and case charge can work.
Turn on your Bluetooth, and you should see LUMOS TEMPO in your network in a few seconds. Press connect.
Touch key controls:
To pause or play: Tap the right earbud once
To play next: hold right earbud for more than 2secs
To replay/back: Hold left earbud for more than 2 secs
You can toggle between ANC and the Ambient Mode by tapping on the right earbuds twice.
