We finally had the opportunity to check out the Adventure Cove Waterpark in Resorts World Sentosa since our two little ones were tall enough to take some of the rides.
Before I share more details on the rides we took, I wish to highlight that Adventure Cove Waterpark is not for every kid. It is not for kids who are afraid of falling into the water, kids who do not like thrills, and kids who cannot swim.
Many of the rides end in pools of water at least 120m deep. My 114cm-tall twins certainly had to swim when they dropped into the water, and no life vests are allowed on most of the rides.
So if you are looking for waterslides for non-swimmers, consider Wild Wild Wet in Downtown East and Splash @ Kidz Amaze at SAFRA Punggol (link to my blog post here).
Adventure Cove Waterpark For the Preschoolers
The minimum height for the attractions below is 107cm, so my going 5-year-old twins get to try them out.
These same attractions get longer queues most of the time because everyone above 107cm gets to try them. So if you don’t mind the gruelling queues at every attraction, you can go without the express tickets.
In our experience, we waited the longest at the Dueling Racer. It was at least a 30-minute wait on the second last day of the year, with Covid and safe distancing measurement in place. Adventure Cove Waterpark was operating at reduced capacity. So can you imagine how long the wait was prior to Covid-19?
Tip: If you are keen to visit Adventure Cove Waterpark with your kids too, go early. The park opened at 10 am on the day we visited.
We started queuing at the entrance at 9.45 am and went straight to Bluwater Bay after Adventure River. Click here for the park’s updated opening hours.
With better understanding of the waterpark now, we should have skipped the Adventure River and gone straight to Dueling Racer and Bluwater. The latter is super popular too.
Dueling Racer
The Dueling Racer is similar to a super long and steep playground slide that goes straight down at a high speed. We get to lay down on the racer mat and slide down the steep slide that was pretty thrilling.
My little twin zoomed off without waiting for me!
Bluwater Bay
This mega wave pool is so enjoyable that the twins went twice when my big girl and I wandered off in glee to look for more exciting rides.
We put on the life vests to float along with the waves which towered above us at its climax.
Try something fun – lying down flat on the water, tummy facing the sky. To prevent water from going into your nose while in this position, simply pinch your nose!
Rainbow Reef
The Rainbow Reef in the Adventure Cove Waterpark is a must-go for kids. This is where we experienced snorkelling and enjoyed the company of 20,000 friendly fish without the need to hire a boat out into the sea!
A word of caution though. My 5-year-olds were able to complete the swim and they were not afraid of the fish. However, they found the salty waters unbearable and hence did not enjoy the experience.
Check out the borrowed video below for a view under the water. Lots of Hippo Tangs which reminded us of the movie “Finding Nemo”!
Riptide Rocket
The Riptide Rocket is a hydro-magnetic coaster sitting on the water. So indeed, we twisted and turned, and even flew up into the air a little before we plunged and dropped into the tunnel slide and ended in the waters. In fact, I find that the Riptide Rocket is the most hair-raising of all.
So while kids below 122cm are allowed on the ride, accompanied by parents, it does not mean that all kids will love the experience.
Another word of caution here. Our water coaster flipped sideways when we dropped into the water at the end. My little girl fell into the water as a result. But thankfully, she swam and was not a bit frightened by the incident.
It seems that the water coasters frequently flip sideways at the end of the journey. At least it was what I observed while waiting in the super long queue for the Duelling.
Big Bucket Treehouse
The Big Bucket Treehouse in the Adventure Cove Waterpark is a water playground for the kids. There are 2 water slides for the little ones to choose from, and a giant bucket tipping over gallons of water periodically. And when the preschoolers enjoyed themselves here, we big kids went off to explore the more exciting sections again!
Adventure River
The Adventure River is superb to laze around it, especially for those who prefer to take it easy. Find it right at the park’s entrance, and go discover an underwater tunnel where marine fishes swim above you. The river has a couple of exit points to bring you to various parts of the waterpark too.
For Tweens
While the preschoolers got busy with their own fun, my 10-year-old and I went to try out some thrilling slides.
Pipeline Plunge / Tidal Twister / Spiral Washout / Whirlpool Washout
We tried out all. Lots of twisting and turning through the dark tunnel slides. But honestly, they felt pretty much similar and equally thrilling to me. In fact, the ride on the Riptide Rocket is more memorable.
What I remember about Tidal Twister and Pipeline Plunge was instead the serene walkway toward the slides. It was surrounded by canopies from the surrounding trees which made the entire waiting experience more pleasant.
Splashworks
At the Splashwork, you can plunge into the water by jumping off raised platforms. There are also ninja-warrior styled obstacle courses to try out. Unfortunately, it began to rain intensely by 3 pm, hence we did not have a chance to try this.
Check out this link for the safety guide at Splashworks.
Experience with Marine Animals in Adventure Cove Waterpark
I believe what makes Adventure Cove special is the opportunity for close-up experiences with rays, sharks and the bottle-nosed doplins.
However we didn’t bother giving it a try as swimming next to the dolphins cost $90 per person, while interacting with the rays cost $16 per child. Nope, not for us, thank you.
Other Tips
Food
Honestly, it is so much better to bring your own food. We did not prepare our own and hence had to grudgingly overpay for instant food such as sandwiches and hotdog buns. Even cold canned drinks cost $4.
And not sure why but the Bay Restaurant was not in operation that day.
Locker
There were 2 sizes of lockers available. As a family of 6, we managed to squeeze our belongings into the smaller locker.
We left our belonging in the locker located near the entrance. In hindsight, the lockers located opposite the BluWater would be a better option because most of the amenities are located around there.
Toilet / Drying Pads
Due to the heavy downpour at around 3 pm, the majority of the visitors ended their day abruptly and made a dash for the changing rooms. The queue was horrendously long. I reckon it would have taken us more than an hour to make it to the entrance of the toilet. With 4 young kids tagging along, I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to survive an hour waiting for the shower rooms.
Since we drove, we decided to simply put on our T-shirts and dresses over our swimsuits and made our way to the nearest restroom outside Universal Studios.
Now that I know better, we could have considered the drying pad before putting on our outerwear. One drying pad is located outside the washrooms near the entrance while the other is opposite the Bay Restuarant.
Express Tickets
If you are visiting Adventure Cove Waterpark with your kids during the peak season and you are a ride-lover, do purchase the express tickets. We saw the same few kids holding on to their express tickets, merrily going over and over their favourite rides while we patiently endured the long queues.
What To Bring / Not To Bring to Adventure Cove Waterpark with Kids
You don’t need to bring your own googles and snorkelling gears unless you gag at the sight of used snorkelling mask.
Life vests are available on-site in various sizes. My 5-year-olds wore XS, my 10-year-old wore S while I could fit in a size M. The largest size available is XL.
Do bring a water bottle. There are water dispensers there to refill your bottle. Reminder: a can of coke cost $4.
Do bring along a water-proof bag for your mobile phones if photo-taking is a must for you and your family.
Bring your own food! Something filling such as sandwiches will be ideal coz the park will take you one whole day if the weather permits. We were famished by 11.30 am.
A lot of time will be spent throughout the day on queuing if you are not buying the express tickets.
