Top Exciting Places Your Kids will Love to this December Holiday!

Most of us will stay put in Singapore this December holiday. Singapore may be small, but there are tons of kid-friendly places to visit.

I have accumulated a list of places that I intend to bring my 3-to-10 years old to. We have been to some of these and intend to revisit them. Most are budget-friendly and outdoor and honestly, I am not sure if we can cover all.

Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden in the Botanic Garden

The 4-hectare Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden is one of the most extensive in Asia.

We love the 2 lovely playgrounds there. Both blend in with the surrounding nature. The newer one, known as Adventure Play, is constructed in 2017 and located in the Forest Zone. The older playground, known as the Tree House, is located on the other end of the garden.

There is a water play zone as well, but it is currently maintenance under further notice. Click on this link for further updates from Nparks.

Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden is not just about playgrounds. It is a nature-learning environment for kids to explore nature.

Check out my earlier post here for details of our first experience, and it wasn’t our last.

Admiralty Park Playground

A massive playground worth making a trip to this December holiday. We have been there once when the twins were still very little. It was pretty new then and the place was filled with exuberant children dashing everywhere.

There are so many slides there, as many as 26! Roller slides, tunnel slides, etc. Lots of ropes to climb on too.

I am hoping to find a perfect timing to visit the playground, hopefully not so crowded and yet cooling. Or am I asking for too much?

Jubilee Park Playground

Located at Fort Canning Park and opposite Liang Court, this unique nature-inspired play space has a lot to offer, from slides to bouncy nets and balancing beams.

I am considering whether I should bring the kids for a walk in the Fort Canning Park before expending their energy away in the playground. Will they be tired out before making it to the park?

Pasir Ris Park Playground

Pasir Ris Park Playground is one of our favourite playgrounds to visit. Other than the huge open spaces for the little and not-so-little ones to run around, I like the relatively challenging structures available for the kids to try out, and the shady canopy that covers almost the entire playground. Any visit after 4 pm should be a relatively pleasant and cooling one.

Lakeside Garden Playground

Another humongous garden spanning 53-hectare in our to-do list to conquer. Somehow the weather just wasn’t good enough for us to venture there previously.

Wildlife Reserve Singapore

Ok, this one does not come cheap. But we recently invested in the WRS membership – Friends of Wildlife for our family of 6.

The membership gives us unlimited excess to the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Safari & Jurong Bird Park, as well as complimentary tram rides. And more importantly, my kids love animal-watching. Most children do.

The annual membership has cost us a whopping $325. But guess what. We will recover the expense in just 3 visits! We have already gone once on Children’s Day, and have plans to visit the Night Safari and River Safari this school holiday! Subsequent trips are considered FOC!

Hm… and we should probably drop by the Jurong Bird Park before it relocates for good? We love the Lory Loft.

Check out this post for our earlier experience.

Chinatown Heritage Centre

We are not revisiting the China Heritage Centre this holiday, but I find this a must go for all primary school children. Thus I am sharing it here.

The museum will be an eye-opener for most of them, especially the P3s and above who have been introduced to Singapore history.

Every room in the museum tells a story of the early pioneers living there. We could easily visualize how hard the immigrants lived their lives in an overcrowded environment, a few people sharing one room.

Here is the link to the post on our earlier experience.

Price (including Multimedia Guide)

Adult – S$18.00

Child – S$14.00 (for age 7 to 12)

Singapore Discovery Centre

The revamped Singapore Discovery Centre just opened its door to the public on 31st October 2020 and I think my big kids are going to like the experience.

The Centre is huge and I don’t think we can finish everything in a day. So I guess we will probably go straight for the fun stuff.

The first is the Escape Room. We will get to role-play as special agents investigating the fate of soldiers sent on a top-secret military mission. There are 4 chapters to choose from, with varying difficulties and thrill.

The second is the Laser Tag Battlefield where we will get to fire laser gun at one another. I am sure the boys and girls will love this.

The third is the not so exciting permanent gallery that I think the kids should take a look. This gallery highlights key events in Singapore, such as the Japanese Occupation, the Indonesian Konfrontasi and the 1983 cable car tragedy.

Price:

Laser Tag Battlefield – $15 (adult), $12 (child above 7 years old)

Escape Room – For each chapter: $30 (adult), $24 (child).

Permanent Gallery – free

Location: 510 Upper Jurong Road, Singapore 638365

Changi Jurassic Mile

For the sake of my dinosaur lovers at home, the Changi Jurassic Mile is a must-visit for us.

We have heard of the pointless attempt to ride through the excited crowds posing in front of the dinos. We are probably going to be one of those striking a pose. I think we should be able to finish the 1-km pathway on foot.

Starting point: Carpark 4A at Changi Airport T4

Price: Free

HydroDash this December holiday?

We are looking forward to this one! Super thrilling and I am sure we will all enjoy every single moment there.

The HydroDash is Singapore’s first floating water park. Located at Palawan Beach, Sentosa, this is the perfect place to utilise part of our $100 tourism voucher!

Floating on the sea, the huge aqua-park has lots of obstacle courses consisting of slopes and towers to challenge, gaps to jump over.

We often recall our ninja warrior challenges we tackled in the Ranoh Island water park. Everything looked easy, and yet we all fell into awkward positions and could not recover easily.

So, everyone is looking forward to this trip December holiday!

Price: $13 (5 – 6 years old), $18 for 7 years old and above, $60 for group of 4
