If your little kids are adrenaline-seekers, you will be happy to know that there is a new neighbourhood playground with a mini flying fox in Tampines North that will excite them and maybe you.
It is free and pretty large-scale compared to other neighbourhood playgrounds, with three (now four) sets of playgrounds in operation, all just a few steps from one another. The fourth playground is also finalised.
Although the mega ones in Admiralty Park, East Park, West Coast Park and Pasir Ris Beach Park remain unmatched, I will still prefer this playground in Tampines over the mega ones during this sensitive Covid-19 period, as these mega playgrounds get very crowded over the weekend.
Tampines North Playground
Located in Tampines Greenview, beside Blk 612B, Tampines North Dr 1
Shade comes in by 4 pm and keeps the wonderland cool and comfortable for play.
There is a mini flying fox in this Tampines North playground that starts from a raised platform that is about 1 metre high. My 3-year-olds are sufficiently tall to get onto the seat on their own. Sliding down was slow and steady, totally safe for the little ones.
There is a similar one in the Jacob Ballas’ Children Playground too. But it took forever to get to our turn the last time we visited.
Our tweens jumped onto the seat sideways to create zigzag swinging momentum. Of course, that made the way down more exciting.
The towers below are friendly for our buttercups to explore independently too. However, unlike those towering ones in Tampines Green Forest Park*, this is more suitable for preschoolers.
Three swings are installed and thoughtfully designed with back support to keep the little ones safe. Unfortunately, I captured only two swings as a person was sitting on the third one.
Walk a little further down, and you will spot two more play structures. One has several climbing posts, giving the children ample opportunities to practice their ninja climbing skills. We had to stay close to our three-year-olds as the gaps between the steps were wide and slightly challenging for the little ones.
A treehouse-inspired design in the Tampines North playground is perfect for imaginative play.
A short slide with rollers inserted. I tried. The rollers didn’t create any impact for me other than a quick massage on my butt. Update in Dec 2021 – The rollers have been removed.
This one (below) is perfect for toddlers.
The third set of the tree-house-inspired playground is on the other side of Blk 612B towards the multi-storey carpark.
We love playground nets. It gives ample opportunities for lots of sensory and balancing experiences, especially when a couple of kids are jumping on the net simultaneously.
I will update this post again when the fourth playground is ready.
The 4th playground
Update on 16 Dec 2021:
The 4th playground is completed! And it is an excellent addition to the Tampines North playground!

Check out its location from Google Maps here.
You will see a dark building in the vicinity. If you take a bus, bus service no 68 from Pasir Ris Bus Interchange brings you near there.
