My 3-year-old twins have recently taken an interest in alphabets. So it is time for us to add on alphabets to our daily learning via play.
Other than reading alphabet books which I think is rather passive, I like to use play to get them actively recognize each letter.
I have made them letter cards and Alphabet Bingo boards to engage them in the learning process.
Bingo Alphabets
In my earlier post, I mentioned how we used our Bingo Numbers templates to facilitate our twins learning and counting numbers.
Here, I am sharing Bingo Alphabets in capital letters and small letters.
We play our Bingo Alphabets the same way as our Bingo numbers.
Get ready a stack of alphabet calling cards. Display one card at a time, read out the letter and its phonic sound. Then let the little ones search for the matching letter on the Bingo board and place a chip over it. A row, column, or diagonal line of 4 completes the game. My twins still prefer to cover the entire board!
I have created several bingo boards comprising of upper case and lower case, as well as letter cards in both cases. For a start, we match the alphabets to the same suit. When they master both, we can get them to match the letters corresponding to the different case, i.e. ‘G’ to ‘g’.
You can also print 2 or 4 sets of letter cards to learn alphabets via play in more ways. We find the snap, and the memory game effective in helping the little ones in their number recognition and retention. So we will do the same for their alphabet learning.
