Homeschooling the Tots – Farm Animal Theme

Moving on from the safari theme, which we could never get enough of, we went on with the farm animal theme.

These were some of the activities we carried out for the month:-

Bunnies

We combined 3 empty toilet rolls to make a rabbit stamp for each of them to attempt printing rabbit silhouettes for further exploration.

Depending on the child’s ability, one can either proceed to fill in the rabbit silhouettes with colours, add on with a counting activity, or even fill the paper up with carrots and leaves.

Bunnies love carrots. So we drew triangular carrots for the tots to cut out.

Pigs

The tots learned to identify various shapes via paper plate art. Filling up the paper plate with colours using a brush or a pair of hands was just so fun. No glue required in the process as the paint itself is adhesive.

Chicken

The tots had fun cutting out various shapes to put together the chicken body. Children with advance scissor skills can take on the semi-circle by themselves too.

Cows

Paper plate cows are so cute and not too challenging for the tots to make.

More training on their cut-and-paste skills using the Kumon First-Step Activity Book*.

Sorting Game

Making use of whatever existing resources we had at home, we converted this Orchard Toys’ Farm Snap Cards* game into a sorting game. This was a few months ago. I am now using the same cards to play memory games with them.

Books

Some of our tots’ fave books are as follows:

Clare Beaton’s farmyard rhymes *

Baby cows / by Kari Schuetz

Bear and Hare go fishing* by Emily Gravett – a lovely book that touches on the friendship between Hare and Bear. Bear never gave up on his best friend no matter how Hare treated him.

Horses neigh / by Rebecca Glaser

Old MacDonald had a farm* – This was a hit with the tots. No twist in the plot. The illustrations were fabulous, and there were lots to explore in the book.

Swim, duck, swim!

Other resources, as seen in this post:

Animal Flashcards and Puzzle by 童悦坊. You can find them in Bras Basah Popular.

Crayola Washable Paints*
