We brought the kids to KidZania Bangkok. Together with their cousins, they spent a memorable time in the premise. These are 6 energetic kiddos, age ranging from 2 to 9 years old. At 5 o’clock closing time, they were not willing to end the fun.
My elder kids have been to KidZania at least twice, as part of their preschool school and primary school excursion programs. As for myself, it was my first experience. So I was feeling a little excited beforemath as KidZania is well-known for the good fun even though I was not the one who would be enjoying the activities.
About KidZania
Do you know that the first KidZania park was opened in Santa Fe, New Mexico in September 1999? It did very well and its founder Xavier López Ancona opened the second outlet in the Mexican city of Monterrey in 2006.
By the end of 2006, the KidZania brand was brought to Tokyo under a franchise. Its expansion never stops since then.
What Does Kids Do in KidZania Bangkok?
In case you are new to KidZania, this mega playground is where kids role-play in adult career roles. They work on a car assembly line, deliver documents, be a dentist, pilot, fireman or policeman. They put out a fake fire with real water, make edible food in MacDonalds. And after participating in the activity, they earn their own salary in the kidzos currency, which can be saved and used in KidZania worldwide.
Many of the fittings in KidZania are sponsored by corporates. For instance, the aeroplane head is sponsored by a particular airline. That is a smart collaboration between KidZania and the corporates. One gets free fitting, the other gets its marketing work done. Having to work with kids now mean brand awareness and likely loyalty in the future.
KidZania Bangkok
My cousin highly recommended us to spend a day in KidZania Bangkok. Not only the tickets are cheaper than KidZania Singapore, but the queues are also significantly less crazy than Singapore’s.
However, we were really quite unlucky during this Bangkok/Khaoyai trip. We missed a few tours in Khao Yai as the operators closed earlier. And we clashed a humongous group of children who were having their excursion to KidZania Bangkok too. As a result, we had to queue up for most of the stations. The fire station queues were as long as an hour. Fortunately, the school ended their excursion by 2 pm and we managed to have the entire place to ourselves for the rest of the afternoon.
First Stop – to the Bank
Our first stop was to the Bank of KidZania where they were given a stack of kidzos to spend on. Honestly, no one was interested to spend the “monies”. They were all yearning to do some work.
Fire Rescue
This is the most popular section to go. In KidZania all over the world, kids queue up for a ride in the fire engine. After a briefing by the station master on fire safety matters, the kids did some warm-ups and off they went onto the slow-moving fire engine which transported them somewhere else to put out some fake fires.
KidZania Police Department
The kids were assigned to investigate a bank robbery case and went around the premise looking for clues.
It is really fabulous that popular stations such as the fire station and the police stations are toddler-friendly. They actually allowed our little ones to join in the fun. However, in cases where the minimum age requirement is 4 years old, they complied by the rules strictly even though the total number of people in our group fits in perfectly for the activity.
Green Tea Factory
Dental Clinic
The kids spent 20 minutes in the clinic and each of them got to try out cleaning the dummy’s teeth using a couple of dental equipment. The staff was really patient when she guided my twin toddlers to perform the cleaning procedure.
Snack Truck
Working at the snack truck was really a good deal for them. Not only they earned their kidzos, they ate the snacks they made. My daughter said the treat was really yummy.
Other Activities
There were other activities they tried out, such as working as a construction worker to build a wall, a pilot and an air steward. They were also assigned to work as paedetric nurses in the hospital.
The activities in the Hospital Station are held inside the rooms and cannot be seen from the outside. I was so glad that many CCTVs are installed so that we parents can observe and understand what the kids experienced.
For the Toddlers
KidZania Bangkok is toddler-friendly. Other than the many stations that welcome toddlers to participate, there is also a playroom dedicated to little kids. In fact, we started our twins’ KidZania journey right here as we took some moments to orient ourselves. As for our big kids, they ran around choosing their own activities together with their cousins.
Is KidZania suitable for toddlers?
Thinking of bringing your kiddos there too? Are they tot? Are they preschoolers?
My honest opinion here. Kids age 5 and above will benefit the most from the amazing KidZania experience. Many little ones though, may not be mentally prepared to participate in the activities alone, and parents ain’t allowed to enter the room.
One of my twin toddlers required my presence in the rooms when we first started their adventure. I attempted to sit in one corner as quietly and invisible as I could. But the KidZania staff adhered strictly to their rules and chased me out. As a result, my toddler went hysterical and could not join in the activity.
Fortunately, we met up with our older children soon after and they helped us lead the little ones through the activities for the rest of the day.
KidZania tickets are not that cheap. Bringing our tots and preschoolers who require our presence in every activity can be really stressful and unpleasant. I saw a couple of parents struggling with their teary minors. If you think your kids are not as independent to run around the mega playground by themselves, it is perhaps worthwhile to wait a little while more before introducing them this wonderful KidZania experience.
