An evening with 4 kids at Forest Walk, Southern Ridges

We mustered enough courage to get our four rascals including a pair of twin toddlers out for a walk in nature. We ventured into the forest – Forest Walk @ the Southern Ridges.

I am so thankful that Npark spared no expense in offering us locals so many outdoor options, including the Southern Ridges. This is a series of bridges and pavements which connects Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, HortPark, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve. We immersed ourselves in the surrounding greenery and panoramic sea view. The bridges also allow families with small children like outs to enjoy the dense tropical forest with ease and convenience.

With the 27-months old twins tagging along, we decided to be conservative and kept our walk just within the Forest Walk along the 1.3km elevated walkway.

We started from the carpark in Hort Park and cross the bridge to begin our mini-adventure. Click here for directions to Hort Park.

Pram Friendly Walkway

Although the entire Forest Walk on the Southern Ridges is pram-friendly, we took a gamble and let the toddlers walk instead. Even though we had to babywear one who slept through the entire journey while carried the other half of the time, we counted ourselves lucky to leave the pram in the car.

The walk from Hort Park through Forest Walk to Telok Blangah Hills is an uphill walk. Pushing a nearly 40-kg tandem pram up the hill for 30 minutes is by no means an easy feat, at least for me. We used the baby carriers instead, and the tots slept soundly all the way up.

Walking above the trees

It is an eye-opening experience for the kids to walk above the trees. The walkway is as high as 18-m above ground and cuts through the Adinandra Belukar, a distinct type of secondary forest.

We made our U-turn upon reaching the top of Telok Blangah Hill.

Taking the Earth Trail

There are many exit points from the elevated walkway for visitors to take the mud path instead. We would love to explore the Earth Trail to enjoy the ground level of the Forest Walk when the toddlers are older.
