The board books that I have selected for the toddlers recently revolve around beautiful drawings of nature and people, and more peek-a-boos because they have developed more spatial awareness. The beautiful pictures on these books are busier than the simpler ones which I selected previously for younger babies, and my toddlers seem to be taking in the illustrations well.
See on my previous post: Baby books we like – 6 months and beyond
The following are the few beautiful toddler books that they have responded favourably and taken out to read on a daily basis.
Who’s In The Garden?
There is a peek-a-boo element in this book as children get to look through a hole in every other page of the book. #4 likes to pull it out of her library corner to study the vibrant pictures over and over again. She loves looking for the roaming frog and rabbit, butterflies and dragonflies hovering above the flowers as well as carrots and fruits planted in the garden.
The illustrations in this book are rather busy, and I don’t think it suits any young child below 15 months.

Where is Baby’s Mommy?
We love Karen Katz’s books. Her adorable illustrations have captured my eldest daughter’s heart. In this series of lift-the-flap book, our little ones help Baby to find her mummy. Is she behind the chair, or is she behind the bed?
The flaps in the book are somewhat soft, and our little ones could easily damage the paper. However, we reinforce the flaps with transparent tapes to minimise damages.

Who’s Hiding on the Farm?
This is another excellent lift-the-flap book with captivating illustrations and easy to understand. Our little ones were intrigued by the farmyard animals they found behind the flaps.

1 2 3 A walk in the Countryside
This concept book takes our little ones for an autumnal walk in the countryside. Numbers are introduced here, from 1 to 20. Although my toddlers were not interested in the numbers and counting beyond 3, they adore walking through the countryside with the characters in the story. The children in the story end their adventure with a rest under the sky and counting stars, while we finish our reading by singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars.
