The 6 of us (including our two 14-month-olds) took a bus up north to Kuala Lumpur to celebrate a joyous event – our cousin’s wedding! A wedding ceremony is a once-in-a-lifetime event for most of us, so no matter how small our little ones are, we must attend and witness the happy occasion.
As the couples held their wedding event at One World Hotel, it is natural that we booked our accommodation in the same hotel. Honestly, before this trip, I have no inkling of One World Hotel nor anything located beside this hotel.
One World Hotel is a 5-star hotel and is located beside 1 Utama Shopping Centre, reportedly the world’s 6th largest shopping mall. KidZania Kuala Lumpur, IKEA and Bandar Utama Golf Course are also in the vicinity. For those of you who are not familiar with Malaysia like me, One World Hotel and 1 Utama Shopping Centre are not located in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. It is in Petaling Jaya, which is about an hour drive from the city centre.
Travelling on Aeroline Bus to Kuala Lumpur
Wise hubby did some research and found a more comfortable and cheaper way for all of us to go to KL as compared to by flight, that is via a straight bus from Harbourfront to One World Hotel. The bus terminal is located right beside 1 Utama. So together with my in-laws, the 15 of us took a double-decked Aeroline executive coach to our destination.
I am pretty impressed with the service level provided by the bus company. Not only there was one dedicated service staff on board to provide us with delicious dinner, drinks, blankets and pillow; there is also a touch-screen TV at every seat. The kids kept themselves busy with games and movies from the touch screen TV throughout the journey. The passenger seats are on the upper deck with the lower level is a lounge area.
I like that the bus is well maintained. The TV works for most of us, and the seats are spacious and clean. I am disappointed with the second bus from another company we took on the return trip. Although the seats are bigger and more comfortable, it was dirty, and some of the TVs would not work.
We boarded the Aeroline bus at 4 pm, spent over an hour in the Singapore customs due to passenger-specific delay, and reached our destination at 10 pm. There was only one toilet stop along the way. I think if we took a typical single-decked coach, we might have arrived faster but our experience would have been less than ideal. For safety purpose, a double-decked coach cannot speed like a single-decked vehicle on the highway.
Update on 4 April 2018: My good friend travels to Petaling Jaya via coach frequently. She commented that 6 to 7 hours of travelling is considered short!
One World Hotel
As there were 6 of us plus our helper, hubby booked a family suite which consists of a junior suite and an adjoining deluxe room.
We love the rooms and the super comfortable beds. Each bed comes with a few pillows of different firmness and a bolster. Our kids loved the bed so much that they did not want to go home to their less satisfying beds.
There was ample space in the junior suite for my children to run around. The room was well stock with amenities including an ironing board, many bottles of mineral water with additional refills from the staffs in the evening. The bathrooms are clean enough for the kids to jump into the bathtubs for their shower.
The breakfast spread in the Cinnamon Cafe was ample, with counters and counters filled with international food. We were spoilt for choice. Hubby liked their savoury prawn noodle soup while I prefer the warm bread pudding. As there were guests at every station, I could not take any photos without being blocked by any person.

1 Utama Shopping Centre
1 Utama Shopping Centre is the world’s 6th largest shopping mall.
Spanning 5 million square feet and six retail levels, 1 Utama contains more than 700 retail shops. It houses four departmental stores: Aeon, Parkson, Isetan and Tangs; two cinemas: TGV and GSC Cinemas, as well as South East Asia’s most extensive rooftop garden.
The above picture shows just a small section of the mall. As our trip was short and packed with itineraries, we did not have opportunities to explore many other wings, other than an opportunistic visit to KOI.
